Ian Gough, BA (Hons), PgDip, MCIPD

Ian developed an interest in the Theatre Organ at an early age as a result of an organ-playing neighbour who owned a Conn theatre model. Ian began lessons on home organ at the age of 7 and by age 11 was performing on stage in local Working Men’s Clubs in and around his home town of Hednesford in Staffordshire.

Ian continued lessons throughout school under the tutelage of popular electronic organist, Brian Hazelby. Ian played a central role in the musical life of his school (Nether Stowe High in Lichfield, Staffordshire), performing on Bassoon in the school orchestra and wind band, and representing the school at County level.

As part of his GCSE music studies, Ian also tried his hand at composing, with one of his orchestral works being performed by the Birmingham Philharmonic Orchestra at public concert at Birmingham Town Hall.

Ian continued his musical studies at A’ Levels, but then moved away from music for a period and undertook an undergraduate degree in Geography at the University of Manchester and a Postgraduate Diploma in Human Resource Management at the University of Salford.

Ian then settled in Stockport and began a career in Human Resource Management. In 2005, Ian decided to pursue his lifetime’s ambition to play the Theatre Pipe Organ and commenced lessons with international recording artist, Joyce Alldred. Ian started to perform in public again shortly after this and in 2007 Ian was awarded first place in the adult division of the American Theatre Organ Society (ATOS) Amateur Theatre Organist competition.

Since then, Ian has combined his career in HR with regular performances at the Stockport Plaza, the Lancastrian Theatre Organ Trust's organs at Stockport Town Hall and Peel Green (Eccles) as well as occasional concerts at other Theatre Organ venues.  He also performs regularly on keyboards and piano, including playing keyboards in a Rock and Pop Covers Band.

In the spring of 2017, Ian decided to focus on music full-time, and in particular his love of the Cinema Organ and other keyboard instruments.
